Dear Parents/Carers
We have recently received several complaints and concerns about the behaviour and safety of some pupils at the beginning and end of school day.
These have come from local residents, other parents and staff. The main concern is around the safety of children playing and running in between cars, in the road and in the school car park.
From a safeguarding perspective the safeguarding team at school have become concerned that several children are placing themselves at risk of serious harm whilst in their parents care before and after school.
Local residents have become upset and concerned about the nuisance this behaviour is causing. Due to these concerns the school has made contact with the Police to express concerns for the safety of the children and nuisance issues for local residents.
Whilst recognising that social interaction and friendships outside of school are an important element of communities I would like to urge all parents to be vigilant for the safety of their children and considerate of the local residents. Please consider how you would feel if children were behaving in this way outside your homes or if you were a driver who had a child run out in front of them causing a serious accident.
Mrs Martin has spoken to some children and as a member of the senior leadership team with responsibility for managing behaviour and designated safeguarding lead she will continue to do so.
If you are a parent of one of the children running around the local area and school car park before and after school whilst in your care, I respectfully request you please control and manage their behaviour. Our main concern is that there will be a serious accident and a child could be seriously injured or worse. Staff are very concerned that a child may be hit by a moving car either in the school car park or on local roads.
Very close to school is a park and green which would be an ideal area for children to play together whilst parents are socialising.

Dangerous Buildings
Dear families
Across the Somerset area we sadly have a number of abandoned and dangerous buildings, along with a significant increase in individuals trespassing into such buildings, causing anti-social behaviour and additional damage. There is a growing trend of posting videos online of explorations into these abandoned buildings, in which individuals are putting themselves, and others at risk.
Derelict and abandoned buildings can be dangerous. These buildings are often in a poor state of repair, structurally unstable, and there may be a risk of collapse. There may be debris lying around, falling ceilings and unstable rotted floors. Many routes may be blocked preventing escape in the event of emergency, there may be hazardous materials on site such as asbestos. Fire damage and water damage from previous incidents may well have made floors, roofs and stairways structurally unsafe.
These types of buildings are inherently dangerous places for those who may be trapped inside and even for emergency services such as police and firefighters in the event of a rescue.
We are therefore writing to all families to urge you to share this information with your families and to ask that those responsible stay out of these buildings to avoid serious injury or worse. Not only is trespass into these sites illegal, but it may also result in avoidable rescues taking resources away from where they may be needed elsewhere in the Somerset area.
We would ask that parents and other people who work with children and young people warn them of the dangers they face. Trespassing in derelict buildings could ultimately leave you with a serious injury or worse.
Even though a building looks abandoned, it will still have an owner and if you’re on the site without permission you’re trespassing. Somerset Council are working closely with Avon and Somerset Police to target trespassers entering into these buildings and cannot stress enough the importance of the content of this letter and would welcome your support in keeping our community safe by sharing this information with your families, children and young people.

UNFORTUNATELY KS1 SPORTS MORNING CANCELLED TODAY TUESDAY 4TH JULY. This is due to weaher forecast for rain before and during the event.

Hi school is fully open today Thursday 9th March 2023
SORRY school is closed today Wednesday 8th March 2023 due to insufficient teachers being able to get to school due to the snow.
REMINDER- due to industrial action school is CLOSED TODAY (Wednesday 1st February 2023) to children in the following classes:

SCHOOL IS ONLY OPEN TODAY (WEDNESDAY 1ST FEBRUARY) to children in the following classes- ASC Base, Tweed, Tamar & Medway.
School fully reopens as usual on Thursday 2nd February 2023.
Parents/Carers- please show our local residents respect by only parking in a legal appropriate space. Blocking residents driveways or garages is not appropriate.
Holway Park School will be closed on the day of the Queen's State Funeral- Monday 19th September 2022.
