  • Communications Policy

    Mon 27 Sep 2021

It is very important to us that we work closely in partnership with parents and carers, and communication between home and school is key. We recognise however that it can often be difficult communicating with teachers because they have a very full timetable; and we recognise that parents and carers also have very busy lives.

Teachers, PFSA, Home School Liaison staff and the admin team want to respond to parental queries at the earliest opportunity and will do their best to do so, however, the majority of teachers’ time is taken up teaching and preparing for lessons. Teachers’ responsibilities extend beyond the classroom, and they may be unable to respond to you on the day a query is made. There is no expectation for staff to respond to queries during their personal/family time.

We will try to respond to you within three working days, if not the same day.

If a call is urgent, please inform the receptionist who will attempt to find a senior member of staff to speak to you if appropriate.

Please see our full Communications Policy on the school website under the useful knowledge tab

    Taunton Winter Trails

This Christmas, GoCreate Directors Liz Hutchin & Jenny Keogh have teamed up with Susie Thomas from Rocket & Bird/Taunton Independent Quarter to create two amazing festive trails to follow safely outdoors in your support bubbles, anytime throughout December. The two trails encourage participants to ‘Find the Lost Toys’ in the independent shop windows and follow the ‘Bauble Trail’ around the town and in some of the beautiful open spaces.

To take part, you can pick up a free map and brochure from Taunton Visitors Centre.

Both trails are free, but all participants will be invited to enter a prize draw to win a hamper of goodies. All proceeds will go to charity.

  • Parents & Carers Xmas update

    Sun 15 Nov 2020

    Dear Parents/Carers

As this term progresses and we approach December we will need to adapt our Christmas activities in response to the current situation. We wholeheartedly want the month of December to continue to be exciting and for the children to learn about Christmas celebrations as normal.

    Virtual Nativity/Christmas Story

We have plans for a virtual nativity story/poem on each class Teams pages to ensure children (and adults) still get this opportunity.

    Christmas Dinner

Rita is still going to provide a Christmas dinner even though this will have to be eaten in the classroom; teachers will still be decorating their classrooms once we reach December

    .

    Christmas Hamper Raffle

We would also still like to hold a Christmas Hamper raffle but we are obviously going to have to follow quarantine and extra sanitation guidelines. The list of things we are asking parents/carers to donate towards the Christmas Hamper Raffle is in the newsletters section of the website, all items donated will have to go into quarantine before they can be put together so please start donating these items from now.

I would like to thank all the parents/carers who are supporting our community by wearing a face mask during drop off and collection times.

    Parking

Some of the local residents are becoming quite upset by the lack of consideration a handful of parents are showing by parking in front of, or on residents driveways. Please do not block or park on local residents drives, park a little farther away and walk into school.

  • Parents & Carers Safety Update

    Tue 03 Nov 2020

HELP US TO KEEP OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY SAFE

    Dear Parents/Carers

With the knowledge of another National Lockdown about to start we are now asking all adults who come onto the school site to wear face masks while dropping off and collecting children.

We would also like to remind parents of the importance in keeping the 2 metre social distance from each other.

Please do not stop to have a chat on school site with staff or other adults or gather outside the school gate.

Follow the one way system. If your child forgets something it will have to remain in class until the next day.

Local residents are becoming quite distressed because several of you are parking in front of or on private driveways. Please respect our local community by parking further away from the school and walk to the school gates.

    Your co-operation is greatly appreciated.

    Regards

    S. Brewer

    Headteacher

  • COVID-19

    Sun 13 Sep 2020

    Dear Parents/Carers

We are aware that there has been a single confirmed case of COVID-19 at a couple of schools in Taunton. These schools in line with advice from Public Health England and in line with National Guidance have advised parents that all pupils in the affected year groups are to remain at home and self isolate for 14 days, but that other members of the household can continue normal activities provided their child does not develop symptoms within the 14 day self-isolation period.

The creation of bubbles (usually year groups) enables schools to respond quickly to any outbreak and minimises wider transmission.

We will continue with our strict hygiene routines :

    • Asking parents to keep unwell children away from school.
    • Washing hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds throughout the day, more often than usual.
    • The ‘catch it, bin it, kill it’ approach -cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you sneeze,  put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards.
    • Minimising mixing by keeping to bubbles as much as possible.

    Government guidance on face coverings

In primary schools where social distancing is not possible in indoor areas outside of classrooms between members of staff or visitors (for example, in staffrooms) head teachers will have the discretion to decide whether to ask staff or visitors to wear, or agree to them wearing face coverings in these circumstances. But children in primary school do not need to wear a face covering.

On the basis of current evidence, in light of the mitigating measures education settings are taking, and the negative impact on communication, face coverings will not generally be necessary in the classroom even where social distancing is not possible. There is greater use of the system of controls for minimising risk, including through keeping in small and consistent groups or bubbles, and greater scope for physical distancing by staff within classrooms. Face coverings can have a negative impact on learning and teaching and so their use in the classroom should be avoided.

We are continuing to ensure that pupils, staff and other adults do not come into the school if they have coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms or have tested positive in at least the last 10 days and ensuring anyone developing those symptoms during the school day is sent home.
