Geography Intent

At Holway Park Community Primary School, our Geography curriculum aims to foster a sense of curiosity, exploration, and connection with the world around us. We believe that Geography begins with understanding the places closest to us—our school, community, and natural surroundings—and grows into a broader awareness of the people, places, and environments across the globe.  We deliver the Geography National Curriculum through active learning, stories and outdoor experiences.

We strive to nurture responsible global citizens who appreciate the diversity of cultures and understand their role in creating a sustainable future. This can be seen within our Geography lessons but also within our additional events that explores current environmental challenges (ECO days) and events that celebrates cultural diversity (LYFTA Day, Anti-discrimination events and Global Week).

Our curriculum intent is to:

  • Inspire curiosity and engagement by exploring the physical and human processes shaping our world.
  • Cultivate a sense of place and pride in understanding our local environment while also making connections and comparisons to other locations across the globe.
  • Promote environmental responsibility and sustainability, empowering students to be agents of positive change.
  • Equip students with essential geographical skills such as map reading,  observation and data analysis.
  • Encourage active participation in fieldwork and hands-on learning to deepen understanding and appreciation of Geography beyond the classroom.

We are committed to ensuring every student at Holway Park leaves with the geographical knowledge, skills, and mindset needed to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world. By fostering both curiosity and compassion, our Geography curriculum ensures that students not only understand the world but are inspired to shape its future.
